People have said that the best way to write is to just sit down and do it. Oddly enough, that isn't as easy as it sounds. Beyond the distractions that are bound to arise, writer's block rears its ugly head at an alarming rate. Stray thoughts can turn into full-blown tangents, and the temptation to alter course on what one is working on is an almost constant problem.
All that aside, I do still enjoy writing. Probably because I love to read, and God knows I have enough ideas that, at least to me, have the makings of a good story. My problem arises that I get caught up in something else, or have a different idea I don't want to forget, or some other admittedly lame excuse. I have a few books underway, and I have every intention of getting back to them, but I have the odd feeling that intentions and execution are going to be very far apart.
As this is my first blog, some basic things about what one might expect from here, not that I expect many (or any) readers. Primarily, this will probably end up being a place for the random things that enter my head when I do try and write; those things can be fairly odd, but they usually end up being at least slightly humorous. Also, I'll probably put up a few selections from whatever project I'm working on right now. I like what I'm working on, and I hope other people will, too, but the only way to figure that out is to get it out and let people read it, so I might as well do that. Finally, I'm a sports and video game fan, so I'm sure the occasional (or not so occasional) post about a team I follow or a game I'm playing will make its way on here.
Well, to any that do end up reading this, I hope you enjoy what you get. I'm writing for writing's sake, even if it isn't on one of my current projects, so that's a plus. But distractions came and went, and this short post probably took twice as long as it should have.
